Yay I Remembered! (Sorta)

Oh hello there!

You forgot about us didn’t you? It’s okay, I kind of forgot too. Well I didn’t really forget I kind of just let life get in the way. And somehow stopping for 10 or 15 minutes to post an update seemed like too daunting of a task to fit into my already packed schedule. Except that my schedule is not overly packed by any means. I just procrastinate doing things, and I’ve procrastinated for nearly 10 weeks on sitting my bottom down and typing out a few words. Honestly, I think its the picture part that I put off, and then I feel like if I don’t have a picture I can’t have a post. Well. Guess what?

I’m not going to post any pictures, I certainly have some I could throw in but I’m going to put some better composed post together this weekend to visually catch you up on both the ever growing baby & beard. So if you have no interest in reading on, I don’t blame you. I’ll see you (more you’ll see me) in a few days time.

So a little written catch up on the lives of the Mr & Mrs.

Unfortunately we wrapped up the majority of December, and consequently the year, with a perpetual colds. It started about 10 days out from Christmas and didn’t budge until around New Years. Brett was able to take some anti-biotics and stave the thing off pretty quickly, but seeing as how I am growing an alien a mini human being, I couldn’t take them. So I tried different homeopathic remedies, non of which really worked but I probably wasn’t trying the right ones, and waited the thing out. Can I get a collective boo for the inability to take cold meds while pregnant? I mean I probably shouldn’t take them at all, but I love me some Day/Night Quil when I can’t make it through on my own. Oh well, pretty sure the bean is more then worth it!

That being said, we had a great Christmas. We were able to spend time with Brett’s parents and my mom and Mike and Sam on Christmas Day, and we celebrated with my dad and Christine and the rest of my siblings a few days later. Our growing little man was more then showered with love from every member of our family. It really is incredible to see all of the love and excitement that this kid will be coming into! He will be the first grandbaby on either side of our families, so the anticipation is mounting daily! Family is important to both of us, and this babe will not be lacking in that department in the least.

On December 30, we loaded up our car, kissed the pups, and headed to the airport with Brett’s parents and sister. We took a family trip to Austin, TX to visit Brett’s Great Uncle Robert and Aunt Deborah. We had an amazing trip and fell in love with Texas, which I’m not sure we were expecting! Austin is an incredible city and if you haven’t been GO!! If you follow either Brett or me on Instagram then you probably got a pretty good visual on our trip, but I will share some pictures later. It was really great getting to know his aunt and uncle more, and spending quality time with his family.

Since we’ve been home it’s been relatively quiet. My grandparents were down from Oregon for a few days and they were able to come to my last ultrasound appointment with my mom, it was really special to share that moment with the 3 of them! After that, I caught another head cold, which I think I am now clear of, cheered the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl (WOOHOOOO!!! Can’t wait for the Harbowl!), finished clearing out the nursery with my mom’s help(!!!!!!), and we are now prepping for the inside of our house to get painted on Friday hopefully!!

Speaking of Friday, the baby & beard will both be 24 weeks along then. It’s crazy to think that there’s less then 4 months left in this pregnancy. I can now feel and SEE my belly move whenever he’s wiggling around in there. It’s still been a great pregnancy, I know its not over yet, but minimal sickness just fatigue, and some joint pain as my body continues to stretch itself to its physical limits. Joy. This week its been a lot of pain at the bottom of my ribcage and the round ligaments. The beard is more epic then ever as it continues its journey. Babies and young children have started to fear the beard, seriously. We went over to our good friends for dinner last night and their 5 year old ran away shrieking “YOUR BEARD IS SCARY!!!!” and their 10 month daughter wouldn’t let him kiss her on the cheek. It was absolutely hilarious!

That’s about all I’ve got for you for now. Bravo to those of you still reading, although something tells me it’s probably just my grandma. HI GRANDMA!! LOVE YOU!! I’ll start working on some much more visually stimulating posts now, just thought I’d check in to let you all know we still exist 😉

SURPRISE PHOTO!!! Brett’s sister, Audrey, took this in Austin at the top of Mt. Bonnell. It’s seriously one of my most favorite pictures ever, and I just had to throw in one picture to bring this little post to life!

20121201_101533

I love that you can really tell how red his beard is in this pic! I have hopes for a sweet red haired baby one day (to match Cousin Emma 🙂 ) Brett’s only word’s regarding his beard…”IT”S EPIC!!” So as all of your husbands shed their No Shave November beard, thank your lucky stars it was only one month of growth….and not NINE!

Now……Who thinks the bean is a girl?? A boy?? I’d love to hear your thoughts and we will be back later today or tomorrow to share!!

Playing Catch {UP}

I recently received a very VERY prestigious award, Worst Blog Keeper Upper EVER!

Ok I made that up. But its very applicable. The last post was six weeks ago….YIKES!! I do have some photos to jog the time between then and now and then I will be back later today (maybe tomorrow morning if I’m being honest) with a chalkboard and questionnaire update. Look at me making promises I can’t keep I’m going to follow through with!

Now sit back relax and prepare yourself for gratuitous pictures of the bean and the beard!

Week 11 @ Apple Hill gathering our pumpkins!!

Week 13!

We headed down to Monterey to spend a few nights celebrating our first year of marriage!! We had such an AMAZING time whale watching, hanging out on the beach and eating some yummy food!! (check out the fierce redness of that manly beard coming in!)

Week 14 Ultrasound!!

We participated in a nurse’s training for Alpha Pregnancy, a wonderful service for woman in Solano County who need a little guidance and assistance. The staff was INCREDIBLE! So sweet and very helpful. We got to spend over an hour watching our bean stretch kick and roll around. It was crazy to see the babe so active and still not be able to feel anything. At one point the baby stretched its arm out, opened its hand and then scratched it’s nose. We all about died of cuteness overload in that moment! If you or a friend is looking for support and is pregnant or even with a new baby I highly suggest Alpha Pregnancy, they are located in Vacaville on Orchard in the Food Fair shopping center.

Week 15 @ the Christmas Tree Farm!!

Heading out to Silveyville has become one of our favorite holiday traditions!! Maybe its the free apple cider and popcorn, or Santa that drives a sled around the farm, or just the overall Christmas spirit that you can’t help but be overwhelmed with when you’re there. Needless to say we are so so so excited to take our bean with us next year!! I love seasonally festive activities!!

Image

We went with our neighbors Ashley Cody and their 2 year old Cash, who is so much fun! Ashley is due at any moment with their second baby, a sweet baby girl! We took this moment to pose with a baby tree sign 🙂 they are our future!

And one last picture! At 15 weeks the baby is about the size of a naval orange so OF COURSE I found a naval orange tree and posed with one

I am officially wearing maternity clothes on a regular basis, thanks to our healthy growing baby. And this week I am really transitioning from the “are you pregnant?” questions to the “when are you due?” My belly has a long way to grow but its feeling a lot more like a real bump now! My doctor said I would probably start to feel some movement this week, and I may have felt a few flutters I’m not 100% sure yet but I am greatly anticipating feeling the first real movements! I have a few more updates to share but I will hold off until the next chalkboard update!! I will say we are getting EXTREMELY close to finding out the gender of the bean, any one have any guesses?

I will send you off with one last picture!!

Our sweet fur baby Brooklyn cuddled up under the tree on a rainy day!

Wordless{ish} Wednesday

This my sweet readers is a bit of a humbling post. The room above is what will hopefully be transformed into a nursery over the coming months. Currently it is my storage room. When I moved in to our house I had a lot of odds and ends that didn’t really fit anywhere and instead, much to my husbands dismay, they began to accumulate in this room. There’s an assortment of decorative bits that don’t really have a home, crafting supplies, clothes, plenty of donateable items and much much more JUNK! Also my wedding dress hangs out in here, and the tiny closet is occupied by random clothing items for both Brett and I.

Onto some logistics about the room. It’s small. Like maybe 10×10, with an itty bitty closet that I’ll have to snap a photo of later. So I want to be able to maximize the space without cluttering it up (cluttering being my specialty if you can’t tell). I’ve started brainstorming some nursery ideas and we have decided that we really want to stay away from anything too theme-y. We don’t know how long we will be in this house so we want the room to be able to evolve with our bean as he/she grows up. So far I’ve only created an inspiration board for a baby boy, but honestly I love it so much I may only change accent colors for a girl, we’ll see.

Modern Boy Nursery Inspiration
1. Pewter by Benjamin Moore. I love the idea of painting the small room a dark color and accenting with bright colors. The contrast will provide healthy stimulation and the dark color will be soothing come nap or bed time.
2. Gulliver Crib by Ikea
3. Luca Glider by Land of Nod. I am currently OBSESSED with the color of this glider. It’s slightly impractical because the color would never match anything else and its TOTALLY outside of my budget…but hey a momma can dream, right?
4. A random mirror, I love the wood grain to add a little manly texture, for over the changing table/dresser
5. A refurbished long dresser. I love the idea of refurbishing a dresser in a fun color that will double as a changing table
6. Random Prints from Etsy that I LOVE and a wall map. We have some vintage maps from Brett’s grandpa that we would love to frame for either a little boys room or our office. Also, the Ribba picture ledge from Ikea. I have a vision of doing three rows of these with books and prints to add more contrast and color.
So this is where I am starting with nursery planning!! So excited!! And please tell me I’m not the only hoarder with a crazy out of control junk room…..anyone?

10 Weeks!

We are 1/4 of the way through!! It’s been a long few weeks, between some prenatal appointments, blood work, an unexpected tooth extraction, and Brett working 12 days in a row we’ve been pretty wiped out around these parts. But we are super excited to be able to share our next round of updates with you all!!

How far along: 10 Weeks!

Total weight gain: 1.5-2 lbs depending on the time of day 🙂

Maternity clothes: None yet, some have been given to me and I am scoping out some maternity leggings from Gap

Stretch marks: None yet, but I am starting to look into different cremes and lotions to use for when the time comes

Sleep: Napping a few times a week, and waking up at least once in the night to go to the bathroom but other then that I’m still sleeping great!

Best moment of this week: The best moment of the week isn’t preggo related BUT my tooth/jaw pain finally subsided so I have been able to enjoy my days

Miss anything: Pretty much anything I can’t have. A glass of wine with my girlfriends, or a cold beer while I’m chowing down on pizza watching a Niners game, and I totally miss sushi! But its all 100% worth it 🙂

Movement: None….but I cannot wait until I can feel the bean squirming!

Food cravings: Nothing in particular, if I see a picture of something I want it, but other then that I have unquenchable thirst and I cannot get enough ice water!

Anything making you queasy or sick: just strong smells but I haven’t had any food aversions.

Have you started to show yet: Just a little bit. It really just looks like I ate an entire Chipotle burrito….which would be normal

Gender: ?? But both Brett and I have had dreams its a boy

Labor signs: Goodness no

Belly button in or out: IN! I’m strangely looking forward to the day it pops out haha

Wedding rings on or off: On

Happy or moody most of the time: Incredibly happy 🙂

Looking forward to: Our next prenatal and hopefully getting to see the peanut again soon!!

So for the most part these past weeks have been relatively smooth sailing pregnancy symptom wise. I am totally enjoying my excuse to take a mid day nap, I feel car sick almost every day but if I can get myself busy I tend to stay distracted enough to not really feel it! Until this last week I had no feeling one way or the other whether or not we are having a boy or girl, and have kind of been pulling for a girl, but with both Brett and I having dreams it’s a boy I am beginning to wonder.

Now unto the update you’ve all been waiting for the baby beard….

We’re calling the beard at week 10 to go along with the pregnancy but he shaved and started anew when we did the first chalkboard picture, so we’re technically at 3 weeks. This beard grows in thick and manly so it will be more then interesting to see how it all comes in!!

We’ve started brainstorming nursery ideas and I’ve picked up a few baby items and I’ll start to share all of those goodies soon! Until next time!!

With Love, B&A

What to Expect…..

…When we’re expecting!! Brett and I found out just a little over a month ago that our family of 2 will be growing to a family of 3!!

We found out on September 3, which is coincidentally two years to the day of our first date. We move quickly, I know I know. Brett and I had just gotten home from a whirlwind road trip with my mother in law including Visalia, LA, and Vegas. Thankfully our goal in Vegas was to sight see it up and not party it up! After driving for over  10 hours on Sunday our goal for Monday was to lay in bed and veg out for a day before we had to return to reality the next day.

I was anticipating my monthly guest’s arrival any moment but my body wasn’t giving me the normal warning signs. I pretty much always have a pregnancy test laying around somewhere so I dug one out and did what you do to take the test. The one line popped up pretty immediately and after like a minute there was no other line so I stuck it on the back of the toilet and walked away. I know, you’re supposed to wait like 3 to 5 minutes or something, but I don’t have that kind of attention span.

A few minutes later Brett headed into the bathroom and saw the test.

B: “Did you take a pregnancy test?”

A: “Ya but it was negative.”

B: (my husband is a joker so when he’s teasing I NEVER take him seriously) “Uh oh”

at this point he starts laughing which indicates he is not being serious then abruptly stops.

A: “I already saw one line”

At this point he walks out with the stick in his hands looking like he just saw a ghost. And I naturally assume he’s still joking. Until he hands it to me.

A: “I ALREADY saw its only….oh wait. IS THAT A SECOND LINE?!?!”

And that is how my husband told me that I was pregnant. It’s been a pretty great month. I haven’t felt too bad. There were a few weeks when I was so tired I had to nap everyday. But that hasn’t been the case lately. My appetite is certainly growing, and this past weekend I found a little baby bump. Nothing too noticeable but certainly a bump in my tummy that wasn’t there before. So far I’ve had no major food aversions, I don’t really like the smell of anything, I feel car sick pretty often but I haven’t gotten sick at all. So at 8 1/2 weeks, its been pretty smooth sailing (knock on wood).

We are to the moon excited for what the next season of our lives has in store for us! The bean’s expected due date is May 17, 2013. We had our first appointment last Monday where we got to see our little bean, and miraculously heard the heart beat. It was the most amazing sound we have ever heard!!

Oh and of course I won’t be the only one growing something out for the next 9 months….

We’ll see just how out of control this burly beard gets.

We are really excited to keep our family and friends that aren’t close updated on the progress of our bean…and the beard!
